Exam Day
The examination will be multiple-choice, closed-book format. It has been designed to provide ample time for the typical applicant to analyze and respond to all examination items without time pressure–and it is recommended that each item be answered.
You are asked and allowed to bring with you only:
- The test admission form.
- A supply of #2 pencils with erasers to mark a machine-graded answer sheet.
- Two forms of personal identification with signatures, one of which must be a photo id.
- The following are the only calculators that will be permitted in the exam room for the exam administrations:
Casio – All fx-115 models. Any Casio calculator must contain fx-115 in its model name.
Hewlett Packard – The HP 33s and HP 35s models, but no others
Texas Instruments – All TI-30X and IT-36X models. Any Texas Instruments calculator must contain either TI-30X or TI-36X in its model name.
No other technical materials or resources, printed or written material, electrical devices, or persons will be permitted in the examination room.
At the examination site, you will be provided with:
- A source of conversion factors (English/metric, etc.)
- A source of unique formulas required for the solution of examination problems. A copy of
this may be found at www.tpcb.org/ptoe/formulasheet.pdf
The applicant will, however, be expected to know basic engineering factors, relationships and values such as the acceleration due to gravity, etc.
Candidates may not consume food or drink in the examination room but may leave and return to the examination room as required (with an escort provided by the examination administrator).
The examination booklet may be used as scratch paper. The examination booklets will, however, be collected at the end of each examination session. To preserve examination security, written materials or notes may not be removed from the examination room.
Candidates with physical or medical conditions requiring special provisions of any kind should make those needs known to the TPCB at the time their application
is submitted.
A candidate who receives or gives assistance to another, or possesses proscribed materials or devices will be required to leave the examination room and his or her examination will not be scored.
